Overview
This group is a place to share information on summer research programs and internships for students, as well as other resources that support research, such as remote access to instruments.
If you have summer research opportunities or internships, you can share them here. Please contact the group manager with the information you would like to share.
By joining this group, you can also participate in discussions on topics of interest to you in the forum.
Summer Research Opportunities
Research for Community College Students at Purdue - Summer 2018
These projects are specially designed for community college students.
Details about the summer 2018 projects and their requirements are available here: https://nanohub.org/groups/ncnsurf/communitycollegeresearch
In addition to their research, students will be part of the NCN cohort and participate in numerous social and professional development activities that include scientific communication workshops, mentee-training activities, a poster session and symposium.
Application Deadline: Feb 27, 2018.
Computational Nanotechnology Summer Undergraduate Research Program at Purdue (NCN SURF)
The Network for Computational Nanotechnology sponsors several research positions each summer for students who are interested in computation and simulation who would like to work on a research project at Purdue University and publish a simulation tool on nanoHUB. Our NCN SURF web page has details about this program as well as descriptions of the various research projects available and examples of summer student work from previous years.
Applications Reviewed starting February 20, 2018.
Summer Undergraduate Research Program at Purdue (SURF)
The SURF program is helping students across engineering, science, and technology disciplines discover a world of opportunity available to them through research. By closely working with other creative and innovative people, students explore, discover, and transform ideas into reality to advance society and improve people's lives.
Applications Reviewed starting February 20, 2018.
Research Experience for Undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania
The Singh Center for Nanotechnology at the University of Pennsylvania seeks highly qualified and motivated undergraduate applicants for its Research for Undergraduate Experience (REU) Program for summer 2018.
This 10-week program is designed to give undergraduate students the opportunity to work with scientists on the cutting-edge of nanoscale research. (...to read more and for the application, click here)
Application Deadline: February 15, 2018.
Research Experience for Undergraduates at the Center for Translational Applications of Nanoscale Multiferroic Systems
The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program is a summer program designed to develop the skill sets of undergraduate students from non-TANMS universities and community colleges. Students will:
- Work collaboratively with faculty, postdoc scholars & graduate student mentors on cutting-edge multiferroic technology
- Obtain experience working in TANMS engineering testbed
- Gain knowledge of Industry & Entre/Intrapreneurship
- Develop skill conveying ideas to diverse audiences (e.g. researchers, venture capitalists, and recruiters)
- Build an extensive academic and professional network
- Participate in team-building exercises and fun activities with undergraduate peers
Application deadline: Feb. 5, 2018. See website for more details.
Research Experience for Undergraduates - Multifunctional Materials at Texas A&M University
Texas A&M’s program offers opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in materials science research early in their undergraduate careers regardless of their majors. It also promotes success of more senior students, particularly underrepresented minority students who have already developed an interest in materials science, but would benefit from a research experience.
During the 10-week program, students will get hands-on experience in various materials synthesis and characterization techniques, different types of multifunctional materials, and materials modeling methods such as molecular dynamics to continuum scale constitutive modeling, optimization, advanced finite element-based micro-mechanics, and macroscopic finite element modeling. They will learn how research is conducted, develop experimentation and modeling skills, and learn how to conduct property characterization, analysis, testing and optimization of multifunctional materials and components. The students will be mentored by materials science and engineering faculty and a trained graduate student.
