Developing a Risk Management Plan

“Risk management programs for nanoparticles should be seen as an integral part of an overall occupational safety and health program for any company or workplace producing or using nanoparticles. A critical element of a risk management program is the ability to anticipate new and emerging risks, whether they are linked to changes in technology, equipment, or the introduction of new materials in the workplace. This requires ongoing observation of the perceived risks through the systematic collection of information and the evaluation of those factors that place the worker in contact with the potential hazard. This kind of analysis is generally regarded as an integral part of a preventive approach.”1

For assistance in developing a risk management program, see the “Work health and safety assessment tool for handling engineered nanomaterials” developed by Safe Work Australia.
